Official Welcome Ceremony Cancelled

first_imgThe official ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, May 31, at Province House to welcome Gov. Gen. David Johnston and Her Excellency Sharon Johnston has been cancelled. As Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian Forces, the Governor General will attend the repatriation ceremony for Bombardier Karl Manning. Bombardier Manning, of the First Royal 22 Regiment Battle Group based in Valcartier, Que., died Friday, May 27, in Afghanistan. Premier Darrell Dexter extended condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Bombardier Manning. “Every life lost is one too many,” said Premier Darrell Dexter. “The men and women of our forces make many sacrifices while helping to make life better for the people of Afghanistan. On behalf of all Nova Scotians, I want to offer our deepest condolences during this difficult time.” Their Excellencies will arrive in Halifax on Tuesday evening. All other scheduled events will remain the same. Their Excellencies will be in Halifax on Wednesday, June 1, and in Cape Breton on Thursday, June 2.
