Construction worker pinned by paver still critical

first_img Justin Pitts, the man seriously injured in a construction accident on state Highway 500 last week, is still listed in critical condition at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, a spokesman said Tuesday morning.Pitts suffered life-threatening injuries on Sept. 20 after being pinned under a paving machine on Highway 500, officials said. Firefighters with the Region 4 Technical Rescue Team freed the man in the early-morning hours, said Kevin Stromberg, spokesman for the Vancouver Fire Department. Pitts was on a Granite Construction crew working to complete paving work for the St. Johns interchange project.On Monday, Granite Construction announced it had set up a donation fund in the name of Justin’s wife, Kristina, to help cover some of the family’s expenses over the next few months. Donations can be made to the Pitts Family and mailed to the Operating Engineers Federal Credit Union, 805 East Berkeley Street, Gladstone, OR 97027, the company said.“We thank you for your thoughts and prayers in this difficult time,” Granite Construction spokesman Jacque Fourchy said in a release.
