Squatter fined for noise nuisance

first_imgA North Sophia, Greater Georgetown squatter who admitted to disturbing his neighbour by playing loud music was on Monday fined $15,000 when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.Mark Samaroo stood before acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and confessed to disturbing the peace by playing loud and continuous music on January 18, 2019 at North Sophia, Georgetown.The 40-year-old father of six, who is a fisherman, in his defence told the court that he recently returned from sea and was “tekking a lil thing (drink)” when he was arrested by Police.According to Police, the unrepresented man was playing music continuously for several hours when he was asked by his neighbour to play it at a moderate level, and he ignored the request.According to the Virtual Complainant, who is a mother of two, the music was being played so loudly that her entire house started to vibrate. She told the court that this was Samaroo’s behaviour on a regular basis for the last four years.The Magistrate ordered the man to desist from such practice and to apologise to his neighbour before the court.
