NEIGHBOURS TRIED DESPERATELY TO SAVE TRAGIC PENSIONER IN HOUSEFIRE

first_imgThe burned cottage at Derryconnor near Gortahork, Co Donegal where pensioner Jimmy Mc Cafferty, 87, died on Sunday morning.Neighbours tried desperately to save the life of a man who perished in a housefire in West Donegal yesterday morning.Passers-by noticed smoke from the home of Jimmy ‘Tom’ McCafferty from Derryconnor, Gortahork at 7am.A number of people tried to gain entrance to the house but failed. The emergency services eventually got in and rushed the pensioner to Letterkenny General Hospital but it is believed he died en route.One theory is that the fire started from an open fire being used by the late Mr McCafferty.The roadside cottage suffered extensive damage in the fire include structural damage to the roof.Sources say the dead man suffered entensive burns to his body.
